Alivereti Nainoca, a promising 25-year-old athlete, is experiencing a dream come true as he trains alongside some of Fiji’s most revered 7s rugby stars as part of the Fiji Airways Men’s 7s team. He describes the experience as surreal and motivational, expressing gratitude to coach Osea Kolinisau and his teammates for their unwavering support during this pivotal time in his career.
Nainoca, who is currently part of the extended squad, has rapidly adapted to the fast-paced environment and intensity associated with international sevens rugby. He fondly recalls, “So happy to have been considered to be part of the extended team. I used to watch these players and now get to train alongside them; it’s such a great feeling to be with the team I used to only watch on television.” Coach Kolinisau has commended the integration of new players like Nainoca, highlighting the importance of growing team cohesion.
His journey in rugby is just beginning, and Nainoca dreams of competing in various international leagues, viewing his participation in the 7s team as a vital steppingstone. “My dream is to not only reach here but go and play in other countries as well, God willing. I’ve learnt so many things while playing 7s; it’s totally new for me because I’ve always played 15s, so this is my first time trying out,” he reflected.
With the Dubai 7s tournament on the horizon, Nainoca is eager to showcase his skills and represent his country with pride. His determination resonates within Fiji’s vibrant rugby landscape, as seen in fellow athlete Apete Narogo, who is also competing for a spot in the extended squad.
