Nainoca Steps Up with Fiji 7s Ahead of Dubai 7s

Training with some of Fiji’s most esteemed 7s rugby stars is a dream come true for 25-year-old Alivereti Nainoca. The young athlete, who is part of the Fiji Airways Men’s 7s team, has described his experience as surreal and highly motivational. As he adapts to the dynamic pace and intensity of international sevens rugby, Nainoca is grateful to coach Osea Kolinisau and his teammates for their support and guidance.

Nainoca, an extended squad member, has quickly acclimated to the team environment, and Kolinisau has praised the integration of new players like him into the squad. Reflecting on his journey, Nainoca shared, “So happy to have been considered to be part of the extended team. I used to watch these players and now get to train alongside them; it’s such a great feeling to be with the team I used to only watch on television.”

This opportunity marks the beginning of Nainoca’s aspirations in rugby. He dreamily envisions playing in various international leagues, believing that his current position in the 7s team is a steppingstone to greater achievements. “My dream is to not only reach here but go and play in other countries as well, God willing. I’ve learnt so many things while playing 7s; it’s totally new for me because I’ve always played 15s, so this is my first time trying out,” he explained.

As he prepares for the upcoming Dubai 7s tournament where he hopes to proudly represent his country, Nainoca is inspired by the potential of what lies ahead. His determination and passion mirror the journeys of other young talents in Fiji’s rugby scene, such as Apete Narogo, who is also vying for a spot in the extended squad. Narogo’s recent reflections emphasized the significance of dreams and hard work, a sentiment echoed by many athletes in Fiji who strive to bring honor to their nation through sport.

The growing competitiveness within the Fiji 7s team showcases a promising future for the sport, with aspiring players like Nainoca and Narogo highlighting hopes for success on international platforms. The blend of emerging talent infused with the experience of seasoned players creates a fertile ground for potential victories that could further elevate Fiji’s proud rugby legacy.
