Landing lights at Nadi International Airport have been successfully restored after experiencing disruptions due to a system failure, which led to several flight diversions. The issue arose when lightning struck the transmitter, impacting the airport’s lighting system.

Among the affected flights was Fiji Airways flight FJ950 from Canberra, which was initially rerouted to Nausori Airport but has since returned to land safely at Nadi International Airport. Other flights also experienced diversions: FJ910 was redirected to Apia, FJ262 from Port Vila also headed to Apia, and FJ960 from Adelaide was diverted to Nausori Airport. Similarly, FJ274 from Tonga and Virgin Australia flight VA179 were both diverted to Nausori and Noumea, respectively. Fiji Airways flight FJ460 faced a similar reroute to Apia.

This incident highlights the challenges airlines and airports face during unexpected weather-related disruptions, and Airports Fiji Limited has indicated that a formal statement regarding the incident will be released soon. The swift restoration of the landing lights allows Nadi International Airport to return to normal operations, ensuring that travelers can resume their journeys without significant delays.
