Nadi Sports Club delivered an impressive performance to secure the Som Padyachi Cup, triumphing over South Seas Club of Lautoka with a score of 9–5 in a thrilling snooker event that showcased remarkable skill, teamwork, and discipline.

The home team quickly established their dominance as Rimal Narayan and Shivan Goundar teamed up to claim the opening set, setting a positive tone for the evening. This early momentum continued as David Reddy and Vineel Nand extended Nadi’s lead to 4–0, applying immediate pressure on the visiting Lautoka players.

When it mattered most, captain Kailash Goundar stepped up, delivering a steady performance that added another frame for Nadi and reinforced their control over the match. Fiji’s top-ranked snooker player, Sahil Prasad, further highlighted Nadi’s strength by defeating Esala Talebula in a commanding display, keeping the home team firmly in the lead.

Although South Seas Club fought back with Nitesh Chand securing a frame to narrow the gap to 5–1, Nadi’s persistence proved too much. The hosts ultimately clinched victory as Mahendra Deo and Jashwin Nair contributed strong performances, complemented by Naushad Khan’s successful outing, ensuring the prestigious Som Padyachi Cup remained with Nadi.

In the aftermath of the victory, captain Kailash Goundar attributed the win to the team’s unity and strong support system. He expressed gratitude to every player and their families for their unwavering encouragement, stating, “The teamwork, unity, and commitment shown by the boys made this achievement possible.” Goundar also paid tribute to Som ‘Uncle’ Padyachi, club president and a former Fiji snooker champion, whose inspirational presence motivated the players throughout the competition.

Appreciation was also conveyed to supporter Eddie for his contributions towards the team’s celebratory gathering after the match. The team recognized the importance of collective effort, acknowledging members who did not compete in the key matches, emphasizing that the victory belongs to the entire club.

Looking ahead, Nadi Sports Club will shift its focus to the Northwest Snooker League while inviting future challengers eager to face the new Som Padyachi Cup champions. This triumph not only signifies a win but also celebrates camaraderie, sportsmanship, and a shared passion for the game of snooker.
