The Nabukarabe Youth Club received a significant boost this week as the Ministry of Youth and Sports allocated funding through its income-generating project grant. The grant was presented by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, who upheld a commitment made during the previous year’s Cakaudrove Youth Festival.
Minister Saukuru reaffirmed the government’s dedication to uplifting youth clubs throughout Fiji, particularly in the more isolated regions of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. He addressed the critical issues currently facing young people, including drug abuse, which he linked to the rising rates of HIV and AIDS.
In his remarks, the Minister highlighted the importance of community engagement, urging the youth to steer clear of drugs and collaborate to tackle these pressing challenges. He emphasized that combatting drug-related issues is not solely the responsibility of the Fiji Police Force or the government, but requires a collective effort from the entire community.
The funding handed to the Nabukarabe Youth Club is expected to empower local youth, providing them with resources to develop positive initiatives that can steer them away from harmful behaviors and promote a healthier, more productive lifestyle. This support reflects a hopeful outlook for the youth in Fiji, fostering a sense of resilience and community spirit among young people across the islands.
