Mystics Shake Up Roster with Bold Trade: What’s Next?

Washington Mystics have made a significant trade, sending guard Brittney Sykes to the Seattle Storm in exchange for forward Alysha Clark, guard Zia Cooke, and a first-round pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft. General Manager Jamila Wideman expressed gratitude for Sykes’ contributions, noting her pivotal role in the team’s development and her recent All-Star selection.

Alysha Clark, who returns to the Mystics after a successful stint, brings with her a wealth of experience, including three WNBA Championships and the title of 2023 WNBA Sixth Player of the Year. Wideman highlighted Clark’s veteran leadership as a critical asset for the team as they continue to grow.

Clark, who initially signed with the Mystics in 2021 but missed her first season due to injury, has since shown her capabilities with career averages of 6.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. Brittney Sykes, on the other hand, has been an impactful player during her time in Washington, earning All-Defensive First Team honors and averaging 15.0 points in her three seasons with the team.

This trade not only helps the Mystics reposition themselves for future success, but it also opens opportunities for Sykes to join a Seattle team that is focused on championship aspirations. As the WNBA landscape continues to evolve, both teams look poised for growth and strategic advancement in the upcoming seasons.
