Authorities are investigating the tragic death of a woman discovered aboard a boat docked at the Montauk Yacht Club on Tuesday morning, August 5. The Suffolk County Police Department has established a command center at the marina to lead the investigation.

The woman, identified as Martha Nolan O’Slatarra, was found dead on the “Ripple,” a 54-foot cabin cruiser, which is moored beside another vessel called “Hell In a Bucket,” also named after a Grateful Dead song. Local boat owners have confirmed that both boats are owned by the same individual.

As the investigation progressed, police cordoned off the dock, and the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office was seen removing evidence from the scene nearly 18 hours after the discovery. A mobile command center has been deployed to help facilitate the investigation as authorities work diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death.

This incident has prompted increased attention in the Montauk community, sparking conversations about safety and security in the area. The authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the case to come forward.

While this situation is deeply saddening, it also reminds us of the strong sense of community in Montauk, where residents and visitors alike are coming together during this difficult time.
