A representative for the family confirmed that the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office determined Simmons died at his home in Los Angeles in July due to an accidental cause stemming from complications related to recent falls, with heart disease also being a contributing factor.
Family spokesperson Tom Estey shared in a statement that Simmons’ brother Lenny received a call from the coroner’s office informing him of the findings. The toxicology report showed no illegal substances, only prescribed medications. The family expressed gratitude for the support and love they have received during this difficult time.
Wednesday afternoon, the medical examiner’s report had not yet specified a cause of death. The coroner’s office had previously delayed the announcement while continuing their investigation.
Simmons passed away on July 13 at his Hollywood Hills residence, where authorities found him unresponsive following a call for assistance. He was declared dead at the scene.
