A woman and her boyfriend discovered a rug buried beneath a tree while digging in their backyard in Columbus, Ohio, prompting a police investigation amid speculation on social media regarding the possibility of a dead body being involved.
Katie Santry, a content creator, shared the unusual find on TikTok after uncovering the rug while digging holes to build a fence. What began as a simple home improvement project rapidly developed into a series of intriguing questions.
In multiple TikTok videos, Santry showcased the rug, which was buried over two feet deep and approximately six feet long. She and her boyfriend attempted to excavate the rug, but encountered difficulties due to the packed earth and a tree that had grown over it. During their digging, they also discovered a tree identification tag marked “Bloodgood.”
As interest from viewers grew, Santry decided to contact the police for assistance. Initially, officers inspected the site but left without taking any action, citing a lack of resources and evidence to warrant further digging.
Undeterred, Santry and her TikTok followers continued their efforts, although they were unsuccessful in uncovering the rug. Eventually, homicide detectives returned to the scene with cadaver dogs to conduct a thorough investigation.
On Thursday, during a live stream, two cadaver dogs separately indicated interest in the areas where the rug had been dug up, resulting in Santry’s property being cordoned off with yellow police tape.
By Friday morning, Santry described the situation as more than nine police officers and crime scene investigators had arrived with equipment to further probe the location in the 800 block of Cummington Road, as the investigation remained ongoing according to reports.
