Javion Magee, a 21-year-old from Chicago, was found dead in Henderson, North Carolina, on September 11, with a rope around his neck. His family and friends are grieving his suspicious death.

Magee, who worked as a trucker, had just delivered a load to the Walmart distribution center on Martin Creek Rd. before his body was discovered at an adjacent lot on Vanco Mill Rd, about 0.8 miles away. Police reported that he had no identification, suggesting he did not have his wallet, but they believe he purchased the rope involved in his death from Walmart.

The Henderson Police Department released a statement clarifying that the investigation is being handled by the Vance County Sheriff’s Office, as the incident occurred outside Henderson’s city limits. Sheriff Curtis R. Brame stated that there are no indications of foul play and that the incident is being treated as a death without evidence of someone else’s involvement, urging the community to refrain from jumping to conclusions.

“I understand their loss,” Sheriff Brame said, extending condolences to Magee’s family. He emphasized that the Henderson Police Department is not involved in the investigation.

While mainstream media has been largely quiet on this case, social media platforms, particularly TikTok, have sparked discussions demanding more transparency from the Sheriff’s office regarding Magee’s death.

Brame responded to these social media claims, asserting that his team is actively collaborating with local prosecutors and the State Bureau of Investigation to clarify details about Magee’s death, adding that it should not be classified as a lynching. “There is not a lynching in Vance County,” he asserted, emphasizing that the circumstances surrounding the rope were not indicative of a noose or foul play.

Magee’s family remains skeptical about the transparency of the investigation and is being represented by attorneys Ben Crump and Candice Matthews. The situation continues to develop, and further updates on the investigation are expected.
