Netflix has released a new Nordic noir thriller titled “Secrets We Keep,” aimed at replicating the success of its recent hit, “The Åre Murders.” Unlike the Swedish setting of its predecessor, this new drama unfolds in an upscale area of Denmark, showcasing a gripping story that revolves around a missing au pair.
In the series, we follow Cecilie, who becomes embroiled in the investigation after another au pair, Ruby, disappears from her affluent neighborhood near Copenhagen. As the local police prioritize other cases, Cecilie teams up with her own au pair, Angel, and the newly appointed investigator Aicha to unravel the mystery, uncovering dark secrets along the way. The plot thickens when connections to Cecilie’s own family come to light, forcing her to re-evaluate her views on family and trust.
The cast includes Marie Bach Hansen, Danica Curcic, Simon Sears, Lars Ranthe, Sara Fanta Traore, and newcomers Excel Busano and Donna Levkovski.
Creator Ingeborg Topsøe expresses her enthusiasm for the genre and its capacity to engage audiences fully. She explores the complex dynamics of outsourcing care and intimacy to au pairs, raising questions about morality and the human condition that resonate within families.
“Secrets We Keep” adds to Netflix’s successful roster of Nordic noir thrillers, following “The Breakthrough,” centered on a real-life double murder, and “The Glass Dome,” which dives into a woman’s past connected to her abduction. The streaming platform is optimistic that this series will continue its popular trend in the genre.
With its engaging narrative and compelling themes, “Secrets We Keep” not only entertains but also invites viewers to reflect on the complexities of personal relationships.
