Tesla CEO Elon Musk made controversial remarks regarding his estranged transgender daughter, asserting that she was “killed” after receiving gender-affirming care. He vowed to “destroy the woke mind virus” during an interview with psychologist and conservative figure Jordan Peterson that aired on Monday.
During the discussion, Musk referred to gender-reassignment surgery disparagingly, stating it amounted to “child mutilation and sterilization.” He revealed that his daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, began her transition during the pandemic at the age of 16.
“I was essentially tricked into signing documents for one of my older boys,” Musk said, mentioning his daughter who has chosen to disassociate from his last name. He described a sense of confusion during the pandemic, explaining that he was informed his child might be suicidal.
Musk expressed strong disapproval of medical procedures conducted on minors, stating they are performed on children “who are far below the age of consent.” He echoed Peterson’s sentiments that such practices are “incredibly evil” and suggested that anyone promoting them should face imprisonment. Musk, a father of 12, claimed he was never adequately informed that puberty blockers could lead to infertility, although it is noted that puberty blockers themselves do not directly impair fertility.
Declaring, “I was tricked into doing this,” Musk lamented the loss of his son, asserting that the term ‘deadnaming’ reflects a deeper loss.
These remarks follow Musk’s recent announcement that his companies, including X and SpaceX, would be relocating to Texas due to California’s AB1955, also known as the SAFETY Act, which limits parental notification regarding transgender identification in schools and ensures resources for LGBTQ+ children.
Musk’s daughter applied for a legal name change and a new birth certificate in 2022, stating in court filings that she no longer wishes to be associated with her biological father. Reports suggest that Musk attributes their estranged relationship to the progressive environment of her school.
Historically known for his center-left views, Musk has shifted towards right-wing ideologies in recent years, voicing positions on various issues such as diversity policies and immigration. Recently, he endorsed former President Donald Trump and Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, both of whom are notable supporters of the oil industry and opposers of clean energy initiatives.
