In a recent interview with psychologist and commentator Jordan Peterson, Tesla CEO Elon Musk expressed his views on gender-affirming care, claiming that his estranged transgender daughter experienced detrimental effects after receiving such treatment. Musk described his daughter’s gender reassignment surgery as “child mutilation and sterilization,” emphasizing his belief that the process is harmful, particularly for minors.
Musk shared that his daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, identified as transgender at the age of 16 and received gender-affirming care during the pandemic. He stated that he felt misled into signing documents related to her transition and referenced concerns about her mental well-being at the time.
He further elaborated on the age at which such medical interventions occur, calling it “incredibly evil,” and suggested that anyone who advocates for these procedures should be imprisoned. Musk has emphasized that he was not fully informed about the implications of puberty blockers, asserting that they serve as sterilization drugs, despite medical advice indicating that they do not impact fertility.
Musk’s comments follow his announcement that his companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, will relocate to Texas due in part to California’s legislative measures regarding transgender youth. He has faced criticism for perceived transphobic stances and for moving further towards right-wing ideologies in recent years, which contrasts with his earlier political views.
The estrangement between Musk and his daughter was highlighted in her 2022 legal petition to change her name and birth certificate, where she declared her desire to dissociate from her father. Musk has attributed this rift to the educational environment she was exposed to, sparking discussions about his evolving political rhetoric and personal beliefs.
