Musk’s Controversial Take on Transgender Care: A Father’s Dilemma

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has made controversial remarks about his estranged transgender daughter, claiming that she was “killed” by the gender-affirming care she received. In an interview with psychologist and conservative commentator Jordan Peterson, Musk expressed his intention to “destroy the woke mind virus” and criticized gender-reassignment surgery, referring to it as “child mutilation and sterilization.”

Musk shared that his daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, received gender-affirming care during the pandemic and came out as transgender at the age of 16. He expressed regret over signing documents related to her care, saying he felt pressured to do so during a confusing time compounded by the COVID-19 crisis. Musk stated that he had been informed his child might be at risk of suicide, which influenced his decision at the time.

He argued against procedures performed on minors, asserting that such actions are “incredibly evil” and that those who endorse them should face imprisonment. Musk, a father of 12, claimed he was not made aware that puberty blockers are essentially sterilization drugs, although he noted that these drugs do not directly affect fertility.

Musk’s comments followed his announcement that companies under his leadership, including X and SpaceX, would be relocating to Texas due to California’s AB1955, which restricts parental notification when children identify as transgender. Musk has previously faced accusations of promoting anti-trans sentiments.

In 2022, Wilson applied for a name change and new birth certificate, expressing a desire to sever ties with her biological father. Musk linked their strained relationship to influences from her progressive school in Los Angeles, suggesting that this dynamic contributes to his vocal opposition to “woke” ideologies.

Over the years, Musk has shifted from center-left political views to adopting right-wing rhetoric on various issues, including diversity initiatives and immigration. Recently, he endorsed the Republican presidential ticket featuring former president Donald Trump and Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, both of whom are known for their support of the oil industry and skepticism towards clean energy initiatives.
