Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently expressed grief over the transition of his estranged daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, and condemned what he referred to as “child mutilation and sterilization” regarding gender-affirming care. His remarks came during an interview with psychologist and conservative commentator Jordan Peterson.

Musk claimed that he was misled into supporting his daughter’s decision to undergo gender-affirming care during the pandemic, stating that he was worried for her safety after being told she might be at risk of suicide. He revealed that Wilson received treatment when she was 16 and has since chosen to distance herself from her father’s last name.

Musk described the medical procedures available to minors as profoundly troubling and suggested that anyone advocating for such treatments should face legal consequences. He rejected the characterization of puberty blockers as medication to assist in transitions, alleging that he was never informed they could serve as sterilization drugs.

Reflecting on his relationship with Wilson, Musk lamented the loss of his son and characterized the act of renaming as indicative of a profound change. His comments follow his recent announcement that Tesla, as well as other companies he leads, would relocate to Texas due to dissatisfaction with California’s legislation concerning transgender rights in schools.

In 2022, Wilson sought a name change and a new birth certificate, citing her desire to sever ties with Musk. In Walter Isaacson’s biography, Musk attributed the strained relationship with his daughter to the influence of her progressive education.

Over recent years, Musk’s political perspectives have shifted from a center-left stance to embracing more right-wing viewpoints, particularly surrounding issues like diversity and voting rights. He recently voiced his support for the Republican presidential candidates, including former president Donald Trump.
