Tesla CEO Elon Musk has made controversial statements regarding his estranged transgender daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, suggesting that she was “killed” after receiving gender-affirming care. During an interview with psychologist and conservative commentator Jordan Peterson, Musk expressed strong opposition to such care, labeling gender-reassignment surgery as “child mutilation and sterilization.”
Musk revealed that his daughter came out as transgender at the age of 16 and received gender-affirming care during the pandemic. He claimed that he was misled into supporting these decisions, particularly noting that he was told his child might attempt suicide if he did not agree to the care.
Musk criticized the medical processes involved, asserting that children below the age of consent are subjected to irreversible treatments and echoed Peterson’s sentiment that those who promote such procedures should face imprisonment. He also voiced his belief that he was not properly informed about the implications of puberty blockers, which he erroneously described as sterilization drugs, despite their effects on fertility being misrepresented.
Recently, Musk has announced plans for X and SpaceX to relocate from California to Texas, citing objections to California’s AB1955 law. This legislation prevents schools from requiring parental notification if a child identifies as transgender and mandates state support for LGBTQ+ youth. Musk has faced criticism for perceived transphobia and anti-trans messaging.
In 2022, Wilson legally changed her name and sought a new birth certificate, stating that she wishes to sever all ties with her biological father. Musk has attributed their estrangement to her progressive education in Los Angeles, a disconnect that he claims fuels his “anti-woke” views.
Musk’s political stance has shifted significantly in recent years, moving from center-left to embracing right-wing narratives on various issues. Recently, he endorsed the Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and Senator J.D. Vance, both of whom advocate for traditional energy sources and oppose clean energy initiatives.
