Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently made controversial remarks regarding his estranged transgender daughter, claiming she was “killed” after undergoing gender-affirming care. He expressed his intention to “destroy the woke mind virus” during an interview with psychologist Jordan Peterson.
Musk labeled gender-reassignment surgery as “child mutilation and sterilization.” He discussed his daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, who identified as transgender at 16 and received gender-affirming care during the pandemic. Musk asserted that he felt misled into supporting this process, particularly stating that he was under pressure due to concerns about his child’s mental health during a confusing time.
He argued that such procedures should not be performed on minors, claiming it is inherently wrong and should be punishable by imprisonment. Musk further stated that he was not adequately informed about the implications of puberty blockers, which he referred to as “sterilization drugs,” despite their usage not affecting fertility directly.
These comments come shortly after Musk announced that his companies X and SpaceX would relocate to Texas, citing California’s AB1955, a law that prohibits schools from informing parents if their child identifies as transgender. Musk has previously faced accusations of promoting anti-trans narratives.
In 2022, Wilson sought a name change and a new birth certificate, expressing a desire to sever ties with her father. Musk has attributed the rift to her progressive schooling, suggesting it has influenced her views. Over recent years, Musk has shifted towards right-wing ideologies, departing from his earlier center-left politics, and has shown support for prominent Republican figures and policies.
