Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently made controversial comments regarding his estranged transgender daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, whom he claimed was “killed” after undergoing gender-affirming care. During an interview with psychologist and conservative commentator Jordan Peterson, Musk expressed a desire to “destroy the woke mind virus” and referred to gender-reassignment surgery as “child mutilation and sterilization.”
Musk revealed that Wilson announced her transgender identity at the age of 16 and received gender-affirming care during the pandemic. He stated that he felt misled into signing documents concerning his child’s care, suggesting he was informed that Wilson might be at risk of suicide.
He expressed concern over the medical procedures being conducted on minors, stating his agreement with Peterson that it is “incredibly evil,” and that those promoting such treatments should face imprisonment. Musk claimed he was not properly informed that puberty blockers could be seen as sterilization drugs, although there is evidence that puberty blockers alone do not impact long-term fertility.
“I felt tricked into doing this,” Musk said, lamenting the loss of his son and referencing the term “deadnaming,” which he claims signifies that his son is no longer alive. These remarks surfaced shortly after Musk announced that various companies he leads, including X and SpaceX, would relocate to Texas in response to California’s AB1955, legislation that restricts parental notification regarding a child’s transgender identification and mandates state support for LGBTQ+ youth.
In 2022, Wilson had legally changed her name and sought new birth documentation, stating she did not wish to maintain any connection to her biological father. Musk, who has acknowledged strained relations with Wilson, suggested that her progressive education contributed to their disconnection. His views have become increasingly aligned with right-wing stances on various issues, including diversity and immigration, contrasting with his earlier centrist political views. Recently, he endorsed the Republican presidential candidates, including former President Donald Trump and Senator J.D. Vance.
