Musk’s Controversial Claims: A Father’s Struggle with Gender Identity

Tesla CEO Elon Musk made controversial statements regarding his transgender daughter during an interview with psychologist and commentator Jordan Peterson. Musk claimed that his daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, was “killed” due to gender-affirming care received during the pandemic and criticized what he termed as “child mutilation and sterilization” concerning gender-reassignment surgery.

Musk revealed that he felt misled into signing documents related to his daughter’s transition, stating he acted in a state of confusion due to the pandemic and concerns over her mental health. He expressed regret, saying, “I lost my son, essentially,” highlighting the emotional impact of what he described as “deadnaming,” the term used when someone is referred to by their birth name after transitioning.

His remarks come shortly after he announced plans for X and SpaceX to relocate to Texas, citing opposition to California’s AB1955 legislation, which limits parental notification regarding students’ gender identity. Musk has faced criticism for his views on transgender issues, with many accusing him of promoting anti-trans narratives.

Musk’s daughter sought a name change in 2022, distancing herself from him, as she expressed a desire to sever ties with her biological father. According to biographer Walter Isaacson, Musk attributes his strained relationship with Wilson to the influence of her progressive school.

In recent years, Musk has shifted from centrist views to align more with right-wing ideologies, expressing support for the Republican party and its candidates, including Donald Trump.
