Musk’s Controversial Claims: A Family Divided Over Gender Identity

Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently made controversial remarks regarding his estranged transgender daughter, claiming that she was “killed” after undergoing gender-affirming care. He expressed a desire to combat what he termed the “woke mind virus” during an interview with psychologist and conservative commentator Jordan Peterson.

Musk described gender-reassignment surgery as “child mutilation and sterilization,” revealing that his daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, began her transition at 16 after receiving care during the pandemic. He mentioned feeling misled into signing documents for his child without fully understanding the implications at the time. Musk claimed that concerns about his child’s mental well-being influenced his decision, as he was told she might be at risk of suicide.

He criticized the medical procedures available to minors, labeling them as “incredibly evil” and suggesting that those who promote such treatments should face imprisonment. Musk claimed he was not adequately informed that puberty blockers could be classified as sterilization drugs, although these medications do not directly impact fertility.

Musk lamented the loss of his son, emphasizing that “deadnaming” reflects the emotional impact of losing a child due to transition. His comments follow his announcement that companies including X and SpaceX would relocate to Texas, motivated by California’s AB1955 SAFETY Act, which restricts parental notification regarding a child’s transgender identity and mandates resources for LGBTQ+ youth.

In 2022, Wilson sought a name change and new birth certificate, stating she no longer wishes to be associated with her biological father. Musk has attributed their strained relationship to the progressive education Wilson received in Los Angeles, suggesting that it contributed to his current “anti-woke” views.

Historically known for moderate political views, Musk has shifted towards right-wing rhetoric, addressing issues such as diversity, election integrity, and immigration. He recently expressed support for the Republican presidential candidates, including former President Donald Trump and Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, both of whom advocate for oil and oppose clean energy initiatives.
