Music World Mourns the Sudden Loss of Fatman Scoop

Rapper Isaac Freeman III, professionally known as Fatman Scoop, has passed away after collapsing on stage during a performance in Connecticut.

The 53-year-old artist suffered a medical emergency while performing at Hamden Town Center Park on Friday, according to Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett. He was quickly transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

Footage from the event captured Scoop engaging with the audience at Hamden’s Green and Gold Party just moments before his fall. Following the incident, another artist led the crowd in prayer as a group of attendees gathered at the back of the stage.

Scoop’s tour manager, Birch Michael, confirmed the rapper’s passing on social media but did not disclose details regarding the circumstances of his collapse or death. Michael expressed his sorrow in a post, reflecting on the global experiences and lessons he gained from working with Scoop.

The rapper’s booking agency also acknowledged his death, describing the New York native as a “beloved figure in the music world” known for his “iconic voice, infectious energy, and great personality,” which greatly influenced the industry.

His family shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, remembering Scoop as a “father, uncle, and friend” as well as a “world-class performer.” They described him as a source of laughter, support, strength, and courage.

Missy Elliott, who collaborated with Scoop on her 2005 hit “Lose Control,” paid her respects, offering prayers for his family and acknowledging the joy and energy he brought to the music scene for over two decades.

Apart from his memorable track “Be Faithful,” which became a hit in 1999, Scoop also contributed guest vocals to Mariah Carey’s “It’s Like That.” He was not just a rapper, but also known as a hype man and radio personality. He was scheduled to perform at the Reminisce music festival in the UK later this year, with festival organizers expressing their heartbreak over his loss, stating, “Rest easy, our friend. You will forever remain in our hearts.”
