DHAKA, Nov 22, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh solidified their dominance in the second and final Test against Ireland, extending their lead to a remarkable 491 runs at lunch on Day 4 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Mominul Haque played a pivotal role with an impressive unbeaten score of 79, while Mushfiqur Rahim, who celebrated the unique achievement of scoring a century in his 100th Test, contributed 44 runs as Bangladesh reached 280-3 at the lunch break.
In their first innings, Bangladesh posted a total of 476 runs and established a hefty 211-run lead by dismissing Ireland for 265. Beginning Day 4 at 156-1, the home side experienced a brief tumble, losing two wickets in quick succession. Overnight opener Shadman Islam, who was poised for a century, fell for 78 after being leg-before to offspinner Andy McBrine. The very next over saw skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto dismissed for just 1 run, caught out by Jordan Neill with a short delivery.
Despite these setbacks, Mominul and Mushfiqur anchored the innings with a solid partnership. Ireland missed a critical opportunity to break their momentum when a straightforward catch from Mushfiqur’s top-edged slog sweep was dropped by Cade Carmichael, allowing the two Bangladeshi batsmen to build confidence and rampage through the Irish bowling attack.
As the match progresses, Bangladesh appears on the brink of an inevitable victory, showcasing their skill and resilience against Ireland. With strong performances from key players, the team’s prospects look highly promising as they aim for a comprehensive win.
