Murder Charge Reignites Controversial Case of Missing Colorado Woman

A grand jury in Colorado has officially indicted Barry Morphew, charging him with the murder of his wife, Suzanne Morphew, who went missing during a bike ride on Mother’s Day in May 2020. This latest development follows a tumultuous legal history, as charges against Morphew were previously dropped in April 2022 just before his trial was set to commence.

Suzanne Morphew’s body was discovered in September 2023 near Moffat, Colorado, more than three years after her disappearance, and her death has been ruled a homicide. The determination, according to the autopsy, indicated that she died from a combination of sedatives—butorphanol, azaperone, and medetomidine, commonly used in animal sedation.

In the indictment, it was asserted that Barry Morphew was the last person to see his wife alive. Evidence noted inconsistencies in his statements during early interviews with law enforcement compared to witness accounts and Suzanne’s own admissions of unhappiness in their marriage. Just days before her disappearance, a text message from Suzanne to Barry expressed her intent to end their marriage, stating, “I’m done.”

The indictment draws attention to Barry Morphew’s previous use of BAM, a chemical mixture used to sedate animals, highlighting that he was the only individual in the area with access to it when Suzanne went missing. Law enforcement has confirmed that there were no other purchases of BAM in the region from 2017 to 2020.

Despite the mounting evidence against him, Barry Morphew has continued to deny any involvement in his wife’s death, asserting his innocence through statements made by his attorney. His family has also criticized the legal proceedings, claiming wrongful charges and suggesting a lack of appropriate investigation into other potential leads.

As this case unfolds, it underscores the commitment of law enforcement and the judicial system to seek justice for Suzanne Morphew. With the ongoing support from her family and community, there remains hope that the truth will emerge as the legal process advances.

This indictment highlights a significant development in a case that has captured public attention and reflects the challenging complexities of domestic disputes, bringing to light the importance of thorough investigations and the quest for justice.
