In an exciting matchup during its annual Play4Kay game, the sixth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team triumphed over the Arkansas Razorbacks with a score of 92-70 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Thursday night. With this victory, the Tigers achieved their sixth consecutive win, bringing their overall record to 20-2 and their Southeastern Conference record to 6-2. In contrast, Arkansas fell to 11-11 on the season, remaining winless in league play at 0-7.

Coach Kim Mulkey, who celebrated her 900th career game while leading the Tigers, has reached yet another 20-win season in her impressive 26-year tenure as a Division I head coach. She boasts an outstanding overall record of 774-126, including a remarkable 142-22 at LSU, cementing her position as the second winningest coach by winning percentage in NCAA history and among active coaches.

LSU showcased a well-rounded offensive effort, with six players scoring in double figures. Senior Flau’jae Johnson and junior Mikaylah Williams led the charge, each contributing 17 points to the victory. Johnson also added two rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals, while Williams tallied five rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Freshman Grace Knox, sophomore Jada Richard, sophomore Kate Koval, and freshman ZaKiyah Johnson also made significant contributions, each scoring 12, 12, 12, and 11 points, respectively. Notably, Koval achieved her sixth double-double of the season, recording a season-high 15 rebounds.

The game began with Knox scoring first for LSU, but Arkansas quickly responded to take an early lead. The Razorbacks momentarily led 15-10 following a series of successful three-pointers, yet the Tigers fought back to level the score at 22 by relying on their bench. The second quarter proved sluggish for both teams offensively; however, LSU managed to head into the half with a 36-33 lead, thanks in part to Williams’ eight points at the break.

Emerging from halftime, LSU ignited with a 7-0 run, establishing a commanding 12-point lead before forcing Arkansas into a timeout. With strong performances from their players, the Tigers maintained a dominant position throughout the game, outscoring the Razorbacks 23-20 in the final quarter to solidify their victory.

Looking ahead, LSU is set to face the Alabama Crimson Tide on Sunday, February 1, at the Maravich Center. The game is expected to start at 11 a.m. CT and will be broadcast on the SEC Network. With continued momentum from this victory, the Tigers are poised for success in their upcoming match.
