MTG x PlayStation Secret Lair: Leaks Hint at Ghost of Tsushima Card Drop

MTG x PlayStation Secret Lair: Leaks Hint at Ghost of Tsushima Card Drop

This coming Monday marks a significant milestone for Magic: The Gathering, as it unveils one of the most anticipated crossovers in its 30-year history at the Secret Lair store. The MTG X PlayStation Superdrop will feature various iconic titles from the PlayStation universe, including celebrated franchises like God of War and Uncharted. With numerous uniquely designed cards on offer, excitement and demand for this event are expected to reach unprecedented levels.

Despite the official drop being just around the corner, details about the cards surfaced earlier than anticipated due to a major leak linked to MagicCon: Atlanta. While many aspects of the MTG X PlayStation set have been hinted at, the bonus cards remained under wraps until now, with the first revealed today.

Atsu, Ghost of Yotei has been announced as the bonus card for the Ghost of Tsushima Secret Lair. Its artwork is visually stunning, but the card itself is a less thrilling reskin of the existing MTG card, Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive, which has seen multiple uncommon reprints and has limited market value. Nonetheless, Tetsuko’s role in Commander remains noteworthy, as it is favored in various competitive builds.

In Commander decks focused on small creatures, Tetsuko has a significant presence, particularly in archetypes like those featuring Yuriko, the Tiger’s Shadow. By making small creatures unblockable, Tetsuko aids in maximizing Yuriko’s Commander Ninjutsu ability, allowing for effective attacks. Similarly, Arcadies, the Strategist, benefits from Tetsuko’s ability, ensuring unblockable interactions with walls and low-power creatures, making it a go-to choice for players who enjoy these strategies.

Additionally, Tetsuko Umezawa synergizes with Jin Sakai, Ghost of Tsushima, who can grant double strike to unblockable creatures, potentially resulting in substantial damage output. Furthermore, Tetsuko is capable of making creatures with one toughness unblockable, enhancing its utility across different deck types.

Another staple, Sol Ring, will also be part of the MTG X PlayStation Superdrop. Known as one of the most powerful cards in Commander, Sol Ring makes appearances in every crossover set and Commander precon. While its base market value is around $1, rarer versions can fetch prices significantly higher. This new variant will be available as a bonus to customers who spend $199 or more on the Superdrop, although expectations for its exclusive value remain modest. Historical data suggests such promotional items typically stabilize around $25 in the secondary market.

With the unveiling of the Ghost of Tsushima Bonus Card, anticipation builds for the remaining six bonus cards yet to be disclosed in the MTG X PlayStation Secret Lair. If the trend continues as seen with Atsu, Ghost of Yotei, some of the following cards may also offer niche appeal rather than broad excitement. However, the overall event remains a source of enthusiasm for players, particularly those who appreciate premium prints of unique cards.
