Mountaineers Land Promising WR Commitment from Camp Standout

The West Virginia Mountaineers football team has successfully secured a commitment from talented wide receiver Charlie Hanafin, a standout from the summer camp circuit at Burlington’s Dexter Southfield High School. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 184 pounds, Hanafin chose West Virginia over scholarship offers from several notable programs, including Boston College, Massachusetts, Brown, Yale, New Hampshire, and Georgetown.

Hanafin caught the attention of Mountaineers’ coaches after an impressive performance at a camp in Morgantown, leading to a scholarship offer. Throughout the camp, wide receivers coach Ryan Garrett took the lead in recruiting Hanafin and worked closely with him during drills.

After an official visit to Morgantown from June 18-20, Hanafin decided to end his recruitment by committing to the Mountaineers. He becomes the second wide receiver commitment for West Virginia in the 2026 recruiting class, joining Niceville (Fla.) standout Robert Stith.

Hanafin is recognized for his adept route-running and his ability to consistently create separation from defenders. His physical attributes and refined skills allow him to excel in contested catches, showcasing impressive athleticism during competition drills at the camp. His performance in Morgantown underlined his competitiveness, and coaches believe he has significant potential for development in the future.

This commitment is a positive addition for the West Virginia Mountaineers as they continue to build a strong recruiting class for 2026. With talents like Hanafin joining the team, the program looks to enhance its offensive capabilities and recruit top-level talent moving forward.
