Virginia State Police have formally lifted the AMBER Alert issued for three children who were abducted from Fishersville, Virginia, following the arrest of their biological mother, Shanice Davison, aged 35, from Evergreen, Alabama. Davison was apprehended by the Alabama Highway Patrol and the U.S. Marshals Service after a brief chase on Interstate 495 in the Birmingham area, but she was taken into custody without any incident.
The children, Jai’Marcus Lewis, 10, Ja’Miyah Lewis, 8, and Ja’Liyah Lewis, 6, have been located safe and unharmed. The investigation revealed that the children’s mother was responsible for their kidnapping as she was believed to have taken them without consent and was likely attempting to return to Alabama. The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office announced that Davison is currently facing three counts of felony abduction.
Earlier in the day, authorities acted on a 911 call from the children’s legal guardian. The report indicated that the children were taken from a bus stop when a black four-door vehicle, thought to be a newer model Nissan Sentra, pulled up. At the time of their abduction, Jai’Marcus was dressed in a black and dark blue jacket, while both Ja’Miyah and Ja’Liyah were wearing pink jackets.
The swift response from law enforcement, which included collaboration across state lines, has been praised as a crucial factor in ensuring the safe return of the children. Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith emphasized the importance of reuniting the children with their legal guardians promptly and safely, asserting that public safety remains a priority in ongoing investigations.
This incident serves as a reminder of the complexities surrounding custodial rights and the importance of vigilant law enforcement collaboration. The successful resolution brings a sense of relief and hope as families and communities rally together to protect their most vulnerable members.
