Sony Pictures Animation has confirmed a notable delay for its eagerly awaited Netflix spinoff series, Motel Transylvania, which was originally set for a 2025 release but will now premiere in 2027. This two-year postponement was announced on the studio’s social media platform X, stating, “The gremlin wrecking crew is working overtime at the MOTEL TRANSYLVANIA.”
Set in the playful world of vampires and monsters, Motel Transylvania will follow Dracula and his daughter Mavis as they establish a new resort in the California desert. The series promises a fun mix of humor and hijinks, capturing the dilemma of balancing vampiric ways with human visitors. The show’s logline reads: “Motel Transylvania is open for business, as Drac and Mavis take a break from their Transylvanian haunts to set up a brand new resort for humans and monsters in the California desert. Vampires and sunshine … what can go wrong!?”
The concept for this animated series was first revealed to fans in June 2024, generating excitement as it gears up to be the second television project spawned from the popular Hotel Transylvania franchise. The first, Hotel Transylvania: The Series, aired on the Disney Channel from 2017 to 2020.
To mitigate fans’ disappointment regarding the delay, Sony has shared new concept art featuring goblins at work on the motel and an initial sneak peek displaying Dracula and Mavis overlooking their new creation.
The voice cast remains a topic of speculation. It is not yet confirmed if Adam Sandler and Selena Gomez will reprise their roles as Dracula and Mavis. The previous series featured their characters voiced by David Berni and Bryn McAuley, respectively, and while Sandler did not return for the fourth film, Transformania, hopes linger regarding a familiar audio ensemble for this new iteration.
Since its debut in 2012, the Hotel Transylvania franchise has thrived, with the first film grossing over $350 million globally and each subsequent sequel surpassing the box office success of its predecessor. Although a fifth film is yet to be confirmed, Genndy Tartakovsky hinted at ongoing interest for more stories, particularly following the fourth installment’s successful performance on Amazon.
As fans look ahead to 2027, enthusiasm for Motel Transylvania remains high, with hopes for beloved characters and new escapades in this animated universe. The anticipation continues to build as Sony works diligently to bring this whimsical venture to life.
