Brocton’s Morse Funeral Home, a cornerstone of the community for nearly a century, is making a significant move. After 98 years at 51 Highland Ave., the funeral home is relocating to 19 E. Main Street, right in the bustling heart of Brocton’s business district.
Owner Daniel DiStasio, who took over the funeral home on November 1, 2023, expressed enthusiasm for the transition. “This just worked out perfect for us,” he said. Morse Funeral Home was originally established in 1927 by Ted Morse and has had a continuous presence in the community since its inception.
The decision to move was prompted by the former property owner’s desire to sell the building, leading DiStasio to seek a more suitable location to ensure the funeral home’s longevity. The new venue occupied the space previously held by Sweet Creams, an ice cream parlor that opted not to reopen this season. DiStasio acknowledged the community’s mixed feelings about the transition, humorously noting that many would prefer the ice cream shop.
DiStasio emphasized the importance of having a funeral home within the community. “I know that not everybody wants to see a funeral home, especially younger people because they don’t think of death,” he said, adding that the need for such services is inevitable for all generations.
Renovation efforts have already begun, following approval from local planning officials. The modernized facility will provide enhanced death care services, including pre-need trusts, burials, cremation, and dedicated spaces for grieving families. The new layout also includes better office space for staff and improved parking resources.
Brocton Mayor Craig Miller highlighted the benefits of the new location, particularly addressing previous parking challenges experienced at the old facility. The new site is expected to have significantly more parking solutions, ensuring that funeral guests can access the services without hindering traffic flow.
With construction scheduled for completion this month, Morse Funeral Home is set to open its doors at the new location on June 1. DiStasio’s commitment to preserving the legacy of the funeral home while modernizing its offerings promises a new chapter for this longstanding establishment in Brocton.
