Morrissey has once again canceled a scheduled performance, this time in Atlanta, citing “artist illness” as the reason. The announcement was made by the Fox Theatre, where the show was supposed to take place on January 17, 2026. The venue confirmed that all ticket purchases would be automatically refunded, advising patrons to allow 7-10 business days for processing.
This latest cancellation follows a series of recent show closures that Morrissey has faced at the start of the year. In early January, he scrapped performances in Rancho Mirage and San Diego due to an adverse reaction to a prescription medication. Further cancellations have included a January 15 performance in St. Louis, Missouri. Despite the setbacks, Morrissey did manage to perform in San Antonio on January 10, delivering a memorable rendition of The Smiths’ classic, “Paint A Vulgar Picture,” marking its first performance in nearly three decades.
Morrissey’s tumultuous year also saw him cancel his entire South American tour last November due to extreme exhaustion, along with two shows in Mexico for the same reasons. His recent difficulties in the industry include being cut from a collaboration with A$AP Rocky, a partnership that had been teased numerous times.
In a surprising twist within the music realm, compatriot Robbie Williams recently took a jab at Morrissey in his new album. The song, cleverly titled “Morrissey,” references feelings of isolation and the passage of time amid struggles, reflecting the themes of both artists’ recent experiences.
Looking ahead, Morrissey is set to release his new album, “Make-Up Is A Lie,” scheduled for March 6, 2026. He also plans to embark on a European headline tour next month, which will include a highly anticipated show at London’s O2 Arena on February 28. However, fans have expressed concerns over the likelihood of all scheduled performances proceeding smoothly given Morrissey’s recent health issues. This situation highlights the challenges many artists face in maintaining their careers while dealing with personal health challenges, and fans remain hopeful for Morrissey’s return to form in the near future.
