Ropate Morrel claimed victory at the 4th Rankings Snooker Open Tournament, securing a $500 prize after a commanding 3-0 win over Pritesh Kumar in the grand final on Sunday. Morrel’s path to victory included a closely fought 3-2 semi-final win against Yogen Prasad. On the other side of the draw, Kumar secured his place in the final with a narrow 3-2 victory over Farook Ali.
The tournament, which took place from September 19 to 21 at Suva’s Merchant Club, offered fans an exciting display of snooker talent. During the quarter-finals, Morrel triumphed over Jiten Prasad with a clean 3-0 score, while Kumar dispatched Sahil Prasad with the same scoreline. Farook Ali emerged victorious in his match against Ravinesh Maharaj with a 3-1 win, and Yogen Prasad achieved a notable victory by defeating defending champion Esala Talebula.
Sponsored by 786 Civil Contractors Pte Ltd and organized by the Southern Division Billiards and Snooker Association, the tournament showcased the competitive spirit within Fiji’s snooker scene. The event offered prize money of $500 for the winner, $300 for the runner-up, $100 for semi-finalists, and $50 for quarter-finalists, with a $30 entry fee for participants, who enjoyed lunch during the event.
