NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Country music artist Morgan Wallen has been sentenced to complete a DUI education program and serve two years on probation following a chair-throwing incident that occurred earlier this year on Lower Broadway. Wallen entered a “conditionally guilty” plea and received a judicial diversion for two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment.
Wallen’s attorney, Worrick Robinson, submitted a motion for the plea agreement to the Nashville District Attorney’s Office this week. The incident in question transpired in early April when Wallen allegedly threw a chair from a height of six stories at a Nashville honky-tonk, striking the ground near nearby police officers.
Robinson noted that Wallen has been fully cooperative with the authorities throughout the eight-month legal process, and he has issued apologies to everyone involved. He emphasized Wallen’s dedication to using his platform for positive change through his music and charitable foundation.
According to the judge, the officers endangered by the thrown chair supported the conditional plea. Initially, Wallen faced three counts of reckless endangerment—two pertaining to the nearby officers and one for public safety—as well as charges of disorderly conduct. Video evidence captured Wallen “lunging and throwing an object over the roof,” with witnesses indicating that he laughed following the incident.
DUI education centers have offered alternative sentencing options for offenders related to DUI, reckless driving, and reckless endangerment in Tennessee for over 13 years. If Wallen successfully completes his probation, the charges may be expunged from his record. However, any future legal troubles could jeopardize the terms of his conditional plea.
Overall, Wallen is taking steps to move forward positively after this challenging incident, and it serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability and responsible behavior, especially in the public eye.
This outcome also illustrates the potential for redemption and change, as Wallen commits to bettering himself and learning from this experience.
