Monza is transforming into a smarter and more technologically advanced city, with significant upgrades to public services, including enhanced Wi-Fi access. Key developments were unveiled on July 25, 2025, through collaboration between Acinque, A2A Smart City, and the local government, marking a notable step towards urban modernization.
A central feature of this initiative includes the installation of five fiber optic rings that guarantee continuous service even during localized technical malfunctions, thus providing a robust foundation for the city’s digital ecosystem. In total, A2A has deployed 91 state-of-the-art cameras, bringing the total to 400 across the city. These cameras boast a resolution of up to 2 megapixels, all linked to the Local Police operational center.
Beyond mere surveillance, the cameras utilize artificial intelligence algorithms to identify unusual behaviors, such as detecting abandoned waste and automatically sending alerts to the relevant authorities for prompt action. This smart surveillance is complemented by 17 electronic gates, equipped with 37 cameras to monitor traffic flow, allowing for strategic planning based on collected data.
Mayor Paolo Pilotto emphasized that these measures not only check vehicle compliance, such as insurance and inspection but also enhance intelligent monitoring of traffic patterns in collaboration with law enforcement and the Prefecture. The newly established gates now cover the main access routes to Monza, closing a significant gap in the city’s traffic management infrastructure.
In addition to safety and control measures, Monza is introducing smart amenities for residents. Three intelligent benches have been installed in the Cambiaghi area, allowing users to charge their smartphones and devices, making life easier for those who frequent the town center. Furthermore, five environmental sensors are actively monitoring air quality, particularly focusing on fine particulate matter, which provides critical data for environmental policies and public health.
On the connectivity front, the deployment of 92 kilometers of fiber optics has paved the way for enhanced digital infrastructure, linking 91 municipal buildings, including 44 schools. A2A Smart City has also improved the city’s public Wi-Fi, with 35 access points strategically placed in civic centers and libraries, featuring a new “click&surf” platform to facilitate hassle-free internet access without the need for registration.
These advancements signal a hopeful future for Monza, as it embraces technology to improve safety, connectivity, and quality of life for its residents. The integration of technology is not just about monitoring but creating a more accessible and enjoyable urban environment.
