MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Montgomery City/County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is urging residents to stay vigilant and prepared for severe weather year-round, particularly as concerns of rain and flooding loom.
Montgomery EMA Director Wade Lyles emphasizes the importance of being proactive in weather preparedness. “Everybody in today’s world has a cell phone. Find a way that suits you to get alerts,” he advised. This highlights the necessity for residents to stay informed and ready for any situation that may arise.
Lyles also recommended that individuals begin building their emergency supplies at home. “Buy one item a month, one item a pay period, slowly build up towards that so that you can be prepared,” he suggested. For those who may have the means, he encourages acquiring supplies all at once.
Currently, Lyles noted that there is no need to open any shelters, whether short-term or long-term, although this could change if weather conditions deteriorate.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the EMA has outlined plans for staff readiness. While Lyles confirmed it would not be an “in-person night,” they will continue to monitor weather situations closely to ensure prompt responses if operational adjustments are necessary.
Being prepared can make a significant difference in ensuring safety during unexpected weather events. By taking these steps and remaining informed through alerts and local updates, residents can foster a greater sense of security in their communities.
