NASHVILLE, TN – As Montana State gears up for the national championship game, former standout quarterback Tommy Mellott engaged with his former teammates, who revealed the personal motivations behind their commitment to football. Their insights illuminate the diverse inspirations that drive them to excel on this prestigious platform.
Junior offensive lineman Titan Fleischmann opened up about his journey. “My why is… well, you know, I struggled with my why for a while there,” Fleischmann admitted. “After experiencing several injuries, I initially aimed to be the greatest. But when those injuries struck, my motivation waned. Ultimately, my ‘why’ has shifted to playing for my family.”
Sophomore running back Adam Jones drew strength from his faith, stating, “I think my why is really my faith. It’s something that’s grown significantly during my time at MSU. It has to be more than just football; it has to encompass a bigger purpose. My faith in the teammates around me fuels my drive.”
Senior defensive tackle Alec Eckert found motivation in his teammates and the wider community. “It’s for all the guys on the team, for everyone wearing blue and gold. When you can adopt someone else’s ‘why’ as your own, it becomes a powerful connection,” Eckert noted.
Junior safety Caden Dowler focused on resilience and the right mindset. “I was taught that whatever happens, I must respond the right way. Taking that one-to-know mentality into everyday life is crucial.”
Junior wide receiver Taco Dowler expressed his desire to be a role model. “There are many people who aren’t as fortunate as I am. Playing for those who can’t is a significant part of why I do it. Knowing I can be a hero to some kids and serve as a role model means a lot to me.”
These reflections highlight the profound personal connections and the strong community support that propel Montana State players as they prepare to showcase their talents on the national stage. The motivations rooted in family, faith, resilience, and community exemplify the spirit of collegiate athletics, where personal growth and team unity often shine just as bright as the pursuit of victory.
