GamingTrend recently had the opportunity to preview the anticipated mobile game, Monster Hunter Outlanders, which aims to bring the classic Monster Hunter experience to smartphones and tablets. Designed for mobile gamers, this new iteration will feature the hallmarks of the series, including character customization and multiplayer interactions, while promising to be free-to-play. As of now, no specific release date has been announced, but eager players can begin signing up for a closed beta test today.
Departing from the traditional Hunter narrative, Monster Hunter Outlanders follows adventurers on a mystical island inhabited by unique Radiant Species monsters. Players will initially control their own custom character, known as the Fated Adventurer, but can also opt to play as pre-made characters, each restricted to a single weapon type. These weapons are classified into three categories—Assault, Disruptor, and Support—and are paired with specific companions known as Buddy, Palico, Rutaco, and Trillah, respectively.
While maintaining certain classic elements, Outlanders introduces novel features aimed at enhancing the mobile experience. One such innovation is the ability for Adventurers to construct supportive structures, like ziplines, to navigate the island more efficiently. Additionally, the game introduces teamwork attacks—when a player breaks a monster part, another adventurer can exploit this opportunity for massive damage if they time their attack correctly.
Although the game showcases impressive visuals, it is still in early development stages, lacking defined system requirements and a monetization strategy. It remains unclear whether the game will be zone-based or open world; however, developers have optimized the experience for smaller screens by making monster movements more noticeable and allowing players to lock onto specific body parts during battles. TiMi Studio Group, the team behind the game, stresses the importance of player feedback in shaping Outlanders’ evolution. Attendees at TGS can currently experience the game, and closed beta sign-ups are available.
While Monster Hunter Outlanders brings excitement and innovation to fans of the franchise, the future of the game is yet to be fully unveiled, with beta testing playing a crucial role in its development journey.
