Several key races took place in Hinds, Rankin, and Madison counties during the special elections held today. One of the most closely watched contests was for the State Senate seat for District 26, a position left vacant by Jackson Mayor John Horn. Seven candidates are competing for this significant seat, and the results are highly anticipated.

In Hinds County, where former coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart retired after 25 years, six candidates are vying for the coroner’s position. Ross Adams of 16 WAPT News reported live from the Hinds County Courthouse, which was buzzing with activity as poll workers began counting votes. While results for the State Senate race are not yet available, initial numbers indicate that Interim Coroner Jeremiah Howard is currently leading the race, with about 1.7 thousand votes cast across 1919 of the 108 precincts counted so far.

In Rankin County, voters faced a crowded ballot featuring four candidates for Justice Court Judge in District Three: Jeff Arnold, Cameron Benton, Tamara Bowie, and Adam Woods. Additionally, voters in this county chose a District Two Supervisor from a field of seven candidates.

Meanwhile, in Madison County, the Justice Court Judge race in District Three is heating up in a head-to-head matchup between Mitch Tyner and Colleen Wise. As the evening progresses, election crews are actively monitoring the returns and will provide more updates.

With significant local races in play, residents are encouraged to stay tuned for live coverage and updates on the election results throughout the night.
