Last Sunday, the final of Miss World Chile 2025 took place, crowning Ignacia Fernández as the winner of the event. Beyond her beauty, the 27-year-old captured the attention of social media with her surprising talent as a death metal vocalist, leaving the audience astonished when she performed a live song from her band, Decessus.
This remarkable moment occurred during the semifinal of the competition, where Fernández appeared in an elegant black evening gown. Accompanied by guitarist Carlos Palma, she delivered a powerful performance that showcased her guttural and raspy voice, culminating in a standing ovation from the crowd.
The risk she took to showcase her unique talent paid off, as Fernández not only advanced to the final of Miss World Chile but ultimately won the competition. “Metal has been an essential part of my life: a refuge, a source of strength and purpose,” she shared on her Instagram account. “Being able to express this on the stage of Chilevisión was an opportunity I deeply value,” she added.
In an interview with Las Últimas Noticias (via Blabbermouth), Fernández admitted she was apprehensive about being mocked or memed for her performance. “The song I sang is from my band. It’s my job, my life,” she stated. She also revealed that to perfect her singing technique, she studied for over two years with an otolaryngology specialist and a speech therapist, warming up for 15 to 30 minutes before each performance.
Fernández’s band, Decessus, while relatively new, has made a significant impact since its formation in 2020 during the pandemic. The group has shared stages with international acts like Jinjer and Epica. Their latest single, “Dark Flames,” was released in September, and they are currently working on their debut album.
