The 73rd annual Miss Universe pageant took place in Mexico City on Saturday, attracting over 120 participants from around the world, with several countries making their debut in the competition. The spotlight was on Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjær Theilvig, who was crowned the new Miss Universe, marking a significant achievement for her country. At just 21 years old, she became the first Miss Denmark to ever win the title, following a 61-year gap since a Danish contestant had reached the top five.
In the highly competitive event, Miss Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, secured the first runner-up position, while Miss Mexico, María Fernanda Beltrán Figueroa, followed closely in third place. During the final round, the top five contestants were asked a poignant question: “Miss Universe has inspired generations of women. What is your message to the women watching you right now?” Theilvig’s inspirational response emphasized resilience and self-belief, urging women to transform their past experiences into strengths and to always fight for their dreams.
Beyond her beauty queen duties, Theilvig is a dancer and a beauty entrepreneur who actively advocates for mental health awareness and animal rights. She has aspirations of becoming a lawyer, showcasing her ambition and commitment to making a positive impact.
The pageant this year also celebrated several milestones, including Adetshina’s achievement as the first Miss Nigeria to place in the top five, Miss Egypt’s Logina Salah, who made history as the first woman with vitiligo to compete, and Beatrice Njoya, Miss Malta, who became the oldest contestant at age 40.
This year’s Miss Universe competition not only highlighted individual talents but also fostered a spirit of empowerment and representation, leaving a hopeful message for women worldwide to chase their dreams and effect change in their communities. It reminds us that beauty comes in many forms and that the drive for success knows no age or background.
