Miraculous Reunion: How a Missing Cat Crossed 800 Miles to Find Home

A California couple was overjoyed after being reunited with their cat, Rayne Beau, two months after he went missing in Yellowstone National Park. Benny and Susanne Anguiano were heartbroken when their feline companion disappeared during a camping trip in June. While exploring the wilderness, Rayne Beau fled into the trees, and the couple spent the next 60 days searching for him without any success.

Feeling they had no choice but to leave without him, Susanne expressed her pain, saying it felt like abandoning him. However, their story took a positive turn in early August when Rayne Beau’s microchip proved invaluable.

The couple received a notification from Pet Watch, a pet-tracking service, informing them that their cat had been located in Roseville, California, approximately 800 miles away from Yellowstone. A kind woman had found Rayne Beau wandering alone in the street and brought him to the local branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Susanne described Rayne Beau as “depleted” when they found him, suggesting he had struggled to survive during his time away. Despite the mystery of how he traveled such a distance, the Anguianos hope their story encourages others to share information that could shed light on his journey. In a heartfelt plea, they emphasized the importance of pet trackers, given that an estimated 10 million dogs and cats go missing or are stolen in the U.S. annually. Statistics from the American Veterinary Medical Association show that only one in 50 lost cats in shelters is reunited with their owners, but nearly two out of five cats with microchips find their way back home.
