Following the recent tragedy involving Columbus Blue Jackets player Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew, Johnny’s wife, Meredith Gaudreau, shared the joyful news that the couple is expecting their third child in a few months. During her heartfelt eulogy, she reflected on their recent months together as a family, stating, “John and I had the best six months as a family of four. These will forever be the best six months of my life. There’s specifically one week that I will cherish forever — it will be my favorite week of my life out of those six months. We’re actually a family of five. I’m in my ninth week of pregnancy with our third baby.”
Meredith described the unexpected pregnancy as a delightful surprise, recalling John’s immediate reaction of affection and joy upon learning about it. The couple’s daughter, Noa, is still under two years old, and they welcomed a son named Johnny in February.
Tragically, Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau lost their lives in a suspected drunken driving incident in Salem County, New Jersey, while riding bicycles just days before their sister’s wedding during the Labor Day weekend. The driver accused of the fatal incident has since been charged with two counts of death by auto.
In a touching tribute to her brothers, their sister Kate Gaudreau postponed her wedding and added “J&M” to her wedding band, expressing on Instagram that they will always be with her.
Matthew Gaudreau and his wife, Madeline, were also expecting their first child. During a memorial for the brothers, Madeline shared that Matthew was eager to become a father, detailing his enthusiasm over preparations and expressing emotional moments like when he first heard their son Tripp’s heartbeat. Madeline has announced her due date is in December.
