The establishment of a Ministry of Men has gained traction with support from Reverend Taniela Baleinakorodala, the Vice Principal of Davuilevu Theological College. He argues that this initiative is essential for addressing the urgent issues of violence against women and children.

Rev. Baleinakorodala points out that, despite the Methodist Church implementing programs targeting men, prevailing cultural traditions still permit harmful behaviors and give men undue authority. He stresses that many issues remain unresolved, inflicting ongoing harm to communities.

He advocates for the initiative to be implemented in villages through clear and practical training, noting, “I think the suggestion to have a men’s ministry is quite important; it should not be silenced but embraced, fostering deeper collaboration along with awareness-raising and practical training.”

Moreover, Rev. Baleinakorodaka emphasizes the need for improved collaboration among institutions, communities, and cultural leaders. He believes that such partnerships are vital for reshaping societal norms and encouraging responsible behavior among men. His comments highlight an urgent call for concerted efforts to tackle gender-based violence, pointing towards a constructive path to creating safer, more supportive environments for families.

This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the need for action against gender-based violence, fostering an atmosphere of prevention and support within the community.
