Next week, Build a Rocket Boy, led by former Grand Theft Auto developer Leslie Benzies, will introduce their new sci-fi action-adventure game, MindsEye. This highly anticipated title shares some stylistic elements with the Grand Theft Auto series and features a unique protagonist named Jacob Diaz. Notably, players will spot a familiar face in the game: Agent 47 from the Hitman franchise, who appears in a surprise cameo at the end of the MindsEye trailer revealed during the Summer Game Fest.
The trailer, accompanied by Tears For Fears’ classic “Mad World,” sets a moody atmosphere reminiscent of the Gears series. The reveal of Agent 47 was a highlight, with IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak teasing that the character has accepted a contract in the game’s fictional setting of Redrock City. While it remains unclear if Jacob will become Agent 47’s target, the notion of players being pursued by the iconic assassin adds an intriguing twist to the gameplay.
Jacob, equipped with the titular MindsEye technology implanted in his brain, possesses the ability to remotely control drones and perform various actions that enhance his survival. The narrative follows his quest to recover fragmented memories with the MindsEye’s assistance, all while eluding an unidentified faction intent on eliminating him.
Despite excitement surrounding the game, recent controversies have arisen, especially after comments made by Build a Rocket Boy co-CEO Mark Gerhard, who suggested that there is a financed campaign attempting to undermine the game’s reception, although no evidence has been presented. Additionally, the company has seen the departure of two executives earlier this week without any given reason.
MindsEye is set to release on June 10 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and it promises to be an engaging addition to the sci-fi gaming landscape, especially with its intriguing gameplay mechanics and connections to the beloved Hitman series.
