MILWAUKEE — A lockdown was enacted at City Hall and the Zeidler Municipal Building in downtown Milwaukee after reports of gunfire within the Zeidler Building. Jeff Fleming, press secretary for the Milwaukee Mayor’s Office, stated that as of approximately 3:40 p.m. Thursday, the “threat has been diminished.”
Officials confirmed that shots were fired in a stairwell of the Zeidler Building. Authorities are investigating and believe the suspect fled the scene and did not appear to target anyone specifically. In response to the situation, those inside the nearby City Hall were instructed to remain in their offices with doors locked, while police aim to safely release individuals from both buildings.
People in other downtown structures have also been advised to shelter in place. Representative Gwen Moore expressed her concern for those affected and commended law enforcement for their prompt response, stating, “I am monitoring the ongoing situation at the Zeidler Municipal Building, praying for the safety of all involved.”
This incident highlights the ongoing need for community safety and prompt action by law enforcement in times of crisis. The situation remains fluid, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
