Disney fans are buzzing with excitement as casting advances for the live-action adaptation of the beloved animated film Tangled. Among the contenders for the charming thief Flynn Rider, Milo Manheim is emerging as a frontrunner. The young actor, who has already impressed audiences as Zed in Disney’s Zombies franchise, is garnering attention following recent chemistry readings in London.

Manheim’s musical talents and charismatic appeal make him a strong candidate for bringing the iconic character of Eugene Fitzherbert to life. Since his debut in the Zombies series in 2018, Manheim has showcased a compelling combination of singing, dancing, and heartfelt performances that align perfectly with Flynn’s adventurous and witty nature. Originally voiced by Zachary Levi, Flynn evolves from a self-assured rogue to a more sensitive figure throughout his journey alongside Rapunzel.

Disney often supports its established stars in new roles, which may give Manheim an advantage as he prepares to deliver the energetic musical sequences that are central to Tangled’s charm. With his track record, he could not only resonate with loyal fans of the original but also attract a new audience familiar with Disney Channel productions.

However, Manheim is not the sole contender for the role. He faces competition from talented actors like Charlie Gillespie, known for his work in Netflix’s Julie and the Phantoms, and Gilli Jones, a promising Scottish newcomer. All of these actors bring strong singing and acting skills necessary for capturing the elaborate song-and-dance numbers critical to the film.

The quest for Rapunzel is equally dynamic, with several actresses auditioning for the role. Notable names include Freya Skye, Sarah Catherine Hook, Teagan Croft, and Olivia-Mai Barrett. Lola Tung, recognized from The Summer I Turned Pretty, was also in the running but had to withdraw due to scheduling issues.

Additionally, Scarlett Johansson was previously linked to the role of Mother Gothel but has since stepped away from the project to focus on other commitments. This opens the door for a fresh interpretation of the character who keeps Rapunzel confined for her magical, life-giving hair.

Directed by Michael Gracey, known for his work on musical hits like The Greatest Showman, the live-action Tangled aims to retain the whimsical spirit of the original while delivering a heartfelt romance. Production is slated to begin in the UK as early as June, with timelines potentially shifting based on final casting confirmations.

Tangled, which debuted in 2010, has remained a cherished part of Disney’s filmography, celebrated for its humor, action, and memorable music that resonated with audiences globally. With the prospect of Manheim stepping into Flynn Rider’s shoes, excitement continues to build around this new chapter of the beloved tale.
