Campaign finance reports reveal that the three candidates have collectively raised approximately $3 million in their bids to replace former state Senator Kelly Hancock, who vacated the seat after being appointed interim Texas comptroller—a position he is seeking to retain permanently.
The candidates vying for the District 9 seat include Republican John Huffman, the former mayor of Southlake; Republican Leigh Wambsganss, currently serving as the chief communications officer for Patriot Mobile, which is known for its political action committee supporting conservative candidates in Texas; and Democrat Taylor Rehmet, an Air Force veteran and union organizer.
Wambsganss emerged as the frontrunner in fundraising, reporting over $1.6 million raised from July 1 to October 25. Huffman closely followed, having brought in $1.35 million during the same period, while Rehmet lagged behind with $127,000.
As the votes were tallied, unofficial results indicated that Rehmet was leading the race with 44.12% of the vote, surpassing both Wambsganss and Huffman as of 7:51 p.m. The race highlights not only the engagement of voters in Tarrant County but also the strategic, varied support the candidates have garnered, reflecting the dynamic political landscape of the region.
