Miley Cyrus: From Hannah Montana to Disney Legend, A Journey of Dreams

At just 12 years old, Miley Cyrus made a powerful statement during her final audition for Hannah Montana, wearing a shirt that declared, “I should have my own TV show” beneath a blue jacket. Almost two decades later, that declaration became a reality as she was honored at the 2024 D23 ceremony, becoming the youngest recipient of the Disney Legend title.

In her emotional speech, Cyrus reflected on her journey as Hannah Montana, stating, “I stand here still proud to have been Hannah Montana because she made Miley in so many ways.” She humorously shared a “Disney Legends’ secret,” admitting she was both excited and scared, emphasizing that it’s important to face fears and that there is no true failure in trying.

Country singer Lainey Wilson introduced Cyrus by performing “Best of Both Worlds,” the iconic theme song that remains influential almost 20 years later. Wilson expressed her admiration for Cyrus, thanking her for being authentic and inspiring others to break boundaries.

Cyrus reminisced about her audition journey in 2005, jokingly mentioning Disney’s mission to reinvent itself and how she may have been a product of that drive. She also made light of her controversial Bangerz era, saying that even during that time, she was proud of her roots as Hannah Montana.

She recalled her first public performance at the Glendale Galleria, where she performed “This Is the Life,” a song that few recognized. Yet, she felt a deep connection to Hannah Montana and cherished her dreams as a young girl.

As a montage of her career played at the ceremony, Cyrus was visibly moved and concluded her speech with a heartfelt dedication to Hannah Montana, her devoted fans, and everyone who helped make her dreams come true. “To quote the legend herself: ‘This is the life,’” she said, encapsulating her gratitude and nostalgia.
