During a formal session in Nova Gradiška, President Zoran Milanović discussed the upcoming procurement and modernization of military equipment for the Croatian Army, anticipated following the Prime Minister’s delegation trip to France for contract signings. President Milanović emphasized his support for enhancing the capabilities of the Croatian Army, stating, “I am Commander-in-Chief and I cannot oppose any transaction that will ultimately result in more goods for the Croatian Army.” He acknowledged that while the additional military equipment is essential, it will take approximately five years before it is available for use in Croatia’s defense capabilities.
President Milanović highlighted the challenges in obtaining military resources, noting that current production capacities mean significant delays for new equipment. He expressed a realistic assessment of the situation, saying that faster solutions are unattainable under the current circumstances.
In discussing broader economic issues, the President pointed out the importance of strengthening Croatia’s material and production base, stressing that investments into tangible industries will benefit the economy significantly. He criticized the European Union’s financial distributions, suggesting that they often do not directly support production, which he sees as a crucial component of national strength.
Speaking on the development of Nova Gradiška, Milanović advocated for community strength, collaboration with foreign investors, and careful management of public resources. His remarks resonated with local leaders, including City Council President Dinka Matijević and Mayor Vinko Grgić, who attended the session alongside notable county officials.
The session also featured annual awards recognizing individuals and organizations that have contributed to the city’s growth, reflecting a local commitment to development and prosperity. While challenges remain, President Milanović’s message was one of resilience and a call to focus on building a stronger economic future for Croatia.
