WASHINGTON — The performance of New York Knicks coach Mike Brown’s strategies and decisions is still under scrutiny as the playoffs approach. However, one aspect where Brown’s judgment can already be recognized is his support for guard Landry Shamet.

“I watched tape before I got the job,” Brown noted. “I was a fan of his. And I just saw the things that he did out there on the floor last year and I was like, ‘Wow. This guy can be really good on both ends of the floor.’ And that was something that I came in saying early in the process.”

As previously reported, Brown has been a significant advocate for Shamet throughout the season. He was instrumental in the decision to re-sign the 28-year-old guard, despite differing opinions from others within the organization who were considering alternative options. Additionally, during the crucial period before the start of the season, Brown once again championed Shamet’s case when discussions arose regarding which non-guaranteed contract the Knicks should retain after training camp.

Brown’s confidence in Shamet is indicative of his broader vision for the Knicks, emphasizing the importance of securing talented players who demonstrate versatility and potential on both offense and defense. As Brown’s plans unfold in the playoffs, the decision to stick with Shamet may prove to be a pivotal move for the team’s success.
