After a period of challenging weather and icing across the Midlands, road conditions are set for improvement as temperatures rise overnight. Most areas in the Midlands are expected to climb above freezing after 11 PM on Sunday, with these warmer temperatures persisting through Monday.

By Monday morning, residents can expect temperatures in the upper 30s to near 40 degrees, which will aid in melting any lingering ice. While the majority of travel conditions are projected to be favorable, travelers should remain cautious of a few isolated patches of black ice, particularly on bridges and overpasses.

As the day progresses, skies will clear, allowing sunshine to take center stage throughout the work week, thanks to high pressure settling in over the Southeast. This marks the beginning of a much-needed dry stretch, although temperatures may remain on the cooler side. An incoming arctic air mass, following the recent weather system, will cause afternoon highs to linger in the low to mid 40s, with overnight temperatures dropping into the teens and 20s.

Looking ahead, the next chance for precipitation might arise next weekend, but recent forecasts suggest a diminished likelihood of rain. While a few sporadic showers could occur towards the end of the week, the overall trend indicates a dry period extending well into the following week, providing the Midlands with a necessary break from the adverse conditions experienced recently.
